Japan retail sales down again vs. last year

Here are some recent data regarding retail sales in Japan:

- A Nikkei survey of 24 major supermarket chains showed that November sales were off 1.9% vs. the same month last year.

- The Japan Franchise Association announced that November 2006 sales at 11 major convenience store chains were down 1.5% compared to a year ago.

- Aggregate department store revenues in November were also down. Sales dropped by 0.2% versus one year ago according to Nikkei.
