A few times a year, the Japanese business press prints company performance data which is based on tax reporting or survey information. Over the past week or so, Nikkei Publishing has been featuring rankings of the highest revenue-earning companies in various industries. Some of these rankings are of interest, so I plan to replicate parts of them here from time to time. Each list may contain dozens of companies, so for brevity's sake, I'll just be posting the top five. Nikkei collected the data through company surveys, so please note the rankings only include those firms which responded (however, it seems that most of the big firms did indeed reply).
I'll start with a couple of advertising and marketing-related categories.
